Case study · Hardwood flooring

Mr. Hardwood: from a Facebook page to his own website.

Patrice Lamoureux has been working on hardwood floors for nearly 20 years, in the Outaouais and Ottawa. We wrote and built his website from his photos and his answers. It's a pilot project offered in exchange for this case study.

The context

A respected craftsman with no website.

Patrice has been laying floors since he was 17. In 2020, he took over Mr. Hardwood, the business of his mentor Denis Brazeau. He works in homes and businesses alike, and he did the floors of the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa.

He was swamped with work, but he had no website and no domain name, only a Facebook page. Online, his pro-level work didn't look pro.

What we had to show

  • Nearly 20 years in the trade, starting at 17
  • The floors of the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa
  • Sanding and finishing, his specialty, plus staining, installation, stairs and repair
  • Residential and commercial, fully insured
  • Gatineau, Aylmer, Hull, Cantley, Buckingham and Ottawa
Every fact comes from his answers to our questionnaire.
What we did

He didn't have to write a line.

We started from his answers and his photos. Here are the four steps of the project.

1

A questionnaire

Patrice answered a questionnaire about his trade, his services and his service area.

2

His photos

He sent his job-site photos, then took more, including his stairs.

3

His corrections

He read the site and clarified how long a sanding job takes: 1 to 2 days, depending on the finish. We corrected the text.

4

Live, in his name

The site is live at mrhardwood.ca, a domain registered in his name.

What we asked of him: his answers, his photos and one read-through.

The site

11 pages that show his work.

The home page is in French and English. The other 9 pages are in French, one per service or city, each written for a specific search, like “sablage de plancher à Aylmer” (floor sanding in Aylmer).

  • His services, his work, his Google reviews and an FAQ on the home page
  • A before/after gallery of his real jobs
  • “Fully insured”, spelled out
  • A quote form and his phone number
  • A “coming soon” section for his line of floor-care products
